Coomi > Coomi is a designer of fine jewelry that sell at, among other places, Neiman Marcus and Saks. The ads appear in various magazines including Town & Country and Robb Report.
The campaign was shot by River Clark.
Merrill Lynch > This 9 X 12 (folded) piece told regular folks (read, not rich) that they were loosing their individual broker and were being put in a group account. It actually worked out all right for me, I still have this 'Employee Access Account' account with them.
(Scroll down for Audi.)
Audi of North America > The Audi brochure happened after I had worked on both Mercedes and BMW ad accounts. I've never had more fun driving a big sedan than I did that 4 wheel drive turbo Audi.
> Following this brochure, I was asked to redesign the Audi Magazine, a quarterly that went to current owners. (Scroll down for HBO.)
HBO & VERIZON > Verizon did cross promotional mailings, like the following brochure.
Padma > This was a one-off ad promoting a line of jewelry by actress, model, TV producer and designer, Padma Lackshmi. I admit my AD is not highly conceptual, but I make no apologies. (Please scroll down for Konstantino).
Konstantino > Padma is followed by a jewelery campaign by Konstantino.
Bhasin Properties > Mr Hari Bhasin asked me to put together a quick site on Squarespace to help lease space in his new warehouse building. Now the building is 94% leased we can re-focus the site to managing all his properties.
Below is a couple of pages from a much earlier web site designed for 'Hello Kitty.'
Hello Kitty > Hello Kitty Jewelry was the first website I designed. These are expensive high end pieces fasioned in gold and silver with diamonds and precious jewels for the market that grew up with Hello Kitty forty years earlier.
Verizon ADVO > What's an ADVO? Nobody knows what the initials stand for but it's usually 8-1/2" X 11" and gets added to newspapers. The front has a headline, a special offer and contact information and the back has — the same (but with more detail).
Here I'm showing 3 ADVO fronts but only one back. These 3 also represent the ever changing look over the 7 years I worked on them. Please scroll down to see the back.
There were also 'oversized' ADVO's like this 9 X 12 which in this case introduced Quantum
Verizon CLU's > These inserts are called CLU's. They are cross-promotion pieces between STARZ, SHOWTIME and Verizon. An 8-1/2" X 11" sheet with a special offer on the front and a Channel Line-Up on the back.
Verizon B to B > This is a vertical business to business ADVO, a 8-1/2" X 11" sheet that usually gets slipped in your newspaper but can also just get handed out as a flyer. The other side would say the same thing but spell it out in much more detail (scroll down to see the back page).
Here I've shown 3 fronts and 1 back, please scroll down to see the back.
Verizon How-to Manuals > This was my first job at MRM/McCann, designing and producing user manuals. Nobody but nobody wants to read the user manual so you have to make them inviting and dummy-proof. The process is simple, just find the most non-technological person there is and keep adjusting and fixing the piece until even they can understand it.
Direct Mail > The 3 following examples all show a few of the many formats Verizon used; a consumer 8-1/2 X 14 letter in a #10 envelope, then a business to business (B2B) letter in a 9 X 12 envelope and finally, an extra wide 11 X 14 B2B letter (with a short fold) in another 9 X 12 envelope.
Ultimately, however, a white #10 envelope with a simple 8-1/2 X 11 letter with well-written copy (no pictures or graphs) very often seemed to be the favorite.
Verizon Outdoor Boards > What can you say? Short, powerful lines that cut through the emmensly confusing claims of the fiercly competitive cable business.
Digital Advertising > Emails, banners and interstitials are a welcome, relatively new challenge for me along with web design. Generally more brief and much faster to produce they represent the obvious evolution of Direct Mail.
The Army > The mail I designed for the army at MRM was a welcomed change from my primary duties on Verizon
Natural Awakenings > This is a 56 page monthly health magazine. I get 20 pages of national layouts and ads on a Monday, followed by a number of Word documents of local content and Ads from which I create another 36 pages, including a cover. By Friday noon all the retouching from Photoshop and the layouts from Indesign are saved as a PDF and uploaded to the printer.
